But that doesn't mean you'll be able to get it through one of the carriers — or at least we're not sure that will be the case. On it's website, the Swedish-Japanese handset maker doesn't mention the existence of an appropriate "a" model, which is usually the way they mark phones for the North American market. On the other hand, you may not want to care about this at all. If you want the phone that bad, you can always buy it from one of the importers…

Back in November of last year, we've heard a rumor the Sony Ericsson K850i is hitting the AT&T in 2008. Now we have a leaked poster to prove that was true. But, apparently the "Cyber-shot day" may not happen after all as several sources at AT&T stores told Engadget they've been commanded by corporate to toss their K850 promotional materials in the trash. Why is this is beyond me. I thought Sony Ericsson wants to grab a more decent share of American pie? The only good thing that pops in my mind is that the Swedes and Japanese may be introducing some other Cyber-shot phone via AT&T. The K770 perhaps? Or even better some of the new Cxxx models? Now, that would be something…

Video: Hands on Sony Ericsson T303
Somehow we've no doubts Sony Ericsson has a winner with the T303 model. It's stylish, slick and looks solidly built. Add the low price point to the mix, and voila… there's the magic formula. Anyway, just thought you may want to see the new device in action. Actually, this may still be a prototype as Sony […]

Anyway, just thought you may want to see the new device in action. Actually, this may still be a prototype as Sony Ericsson announced the release for mid-2008, but what the hack - you'll get the point… Enjoy the short hands-on video.

Sony Ericsson denies reports that it is ending partnershp with DoCoMo
Wow, the Japanese handset market is really proving to be a tough nut to crack (a profit from, that is). The […]

recent exit from the mobile phone business, and Mitsubishi's withdrawal from the handset game, it's clear that even Japan's larger handset makers are done with the grind that is the mobile phone industry.

The Japanese market isn't as keen on the smartphones that are so popular in the US and Europe as they are with gimmicky feature phones that can take advantage of the island nation's decidedly advanced wireless infrastructure. But, that poses a problem for firms like Sony Ericsson. While Sony Ericsson enjoys wide success throughout the rest of the world with a marketable handset lineup, product development costs on specialized, single-market handsets are hard to recoup in an environment where the world's No. 4 handset maker is ranks a lowly 6th place in Japan.

A Nikkei business report indicates that Sony Ericsson will stop developing handsets for DoCoMo after launching new devices this summer. Instead, Sony Ericsson is said to be planning to source handsets from other Japanese handset manufactures on an ODM basis and sold to DoCoMo as Sony Ericsson-branded devices.

Sony Ericsson spokesman Toshiyuki Kawamura denies the claims made in this report, saying that Sony Ericsson doesn't intend to stop developing phones for DoCoMo and that there will be no outsourcing of handsets.

So, what are we to believe? Will Sony Ericsson stop developing handsets for DoCoMo but retain it's KDDI partnership? Will SE exit Japan? Or is all this talk of market-surrender nothing more than baseless rumor?  We'll have to wait and see.

At this year's CeBIT in Germany, Sony Ericsson is showing its latest super-baby XPERIA X1. What struck us down is the AT&T's logo located at the center of menu. What could that possibly mean? Is Swedish-Japanese handset maker trying to indirectly pitch the U.S. based carrier through media? Or the deal is already done and they're just waiting for X1's release? Guess we'll have to wait and see. Still, it's worth mentioned that AT&T keeps adding various Sony Ericsson devices to its offering and somehow we wouldn't be surprised to see them carrying one of the coolest Windows Mobile smartphones ever built as well. I'm sure many AT&T users would love that, wouldn't ya?
