Are these the specs for the Sony Ericsson P5 Paris?
Could the Sony Ericsson Paris actually cross over from the realm of rumor and hearsay into our world of for-real gadgets that leave us wanting for more? Could the Sony Ericsson Paris actually cross over from the realm of rumor and hearsay into our world of for-real gadgets that leave us wanting for more? Well, we can't say for sure whether the Sony Ericsson Paris slider that Dusan showed us is real or not, but there's something to be said for a bit of wishful thinking. Especially with specs like this.

The Sony Ericsson Paris is said to be sporting a capacitance touchscreen. That's right, underneath a shiny, mirror-finished front, you'll find a beautiful touchscreen. There's a SureType-esque half-QWERTY keyboard, WiFi, 3G, and GPS stuffed into that little, sliding body, too. Google Maps will apparently come installed from the factory and UIQ 3.3 will be running the show.

Sony Ericsson's Q1 2008 financial figures are out and they don't look too rosy. Sure 22.3 million devices have shipped, a 2% increase from Q1 2007, but with the average selling price of said devices falling to 121 EUR compared to 134 EUR this time last year, the high end phones that do make money sold in much fewer numbers. Sony Ericsson blames the drop in profits to increased spending in R&D, to that I say are you buying all your scientists a triple 30 inch Mac Pro and feeding them gourmet food while they have their scalps massaged by Swedish supermodels?

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1! They flagship XPERIA superphone from Sony Ericsson will be powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional and will sport:

        • Quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900Mhz)
        • HSDPA/HSUPA
        • WiFi
        • Bluetooth
        • aGPS
        • 3.2 Megapixel Camera
        • 1500 mAH Battery
        • Qualcomm's MSM7200A CPU, 528Mhz
        • 800×480 resolution Touchscreen
        • MicroSD for expansion
        • MiniUSB
        • 3.5mm headset jack for music
        • 110 x 53 x 16.7 mm
        • 145 grams

From WMExperts' impressions of the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1, the upcoming superphone from Sony Ericsson is an incredible entry into the world of Windows Mobile. There's not much other than the size of the keyboard that is cumbersome or not amazing in any way.

I  had a chance to actually hold the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 in my hands for a quick photo-op at CTIA Las Vegas 2008, but I didn't manage to actually play with the device for any appreciable length of time. I didn't think my few minutes of playtime warranted a full post, so I'm glad the guys at WMExperts got to review this beauty in full. I can personally attest to the "butter smooth" sliding mechanism on the XPERIA X1. The keys are a joy to use, but the keyboard is a bit wide and will likely to a problem fro some smaller-handed geeks out there.

Flash Lite will come pre-installed, this is Windows Mobile 6.1 and Microsoft made it a point to let the press know that the version of Flash Lite in Windows Mobile 6.1 will be the only mobile Flash solution to play full desktop Flash.

Head on over to WMExperts for the full review.

G700 was introduced alongside the much-better G900 model at this year's Mobile World Congress (3GSM) in Barcelona, Spain. We never thought it will cross the Pond and somehow we still doubt that's the case, even though it just passed the FCC hurdle. Sony Ericsson is known to push virtually all of its devices through FCC, but fails to deliver them to the U.S. market.

Still, I want to be an optimist here. UIQ is set to help Motorola push the Z10 and hopefully their future UIQ-based smartphones in North America. They're even organizing two UIQ Fast Track events in Boston and San Francisco this May. Sony Ericsson could certainly take advantage of UIQ's presence on the continent and aside from launching the G700, also release the WiFi-equipped G900 model.

We've nothing official from the Swedish-Japanese folks, it's just me speculating at the moment. Hopefully, this will go beyond my wishful thinking…

Flash Lite and Java ME development platforms. The so called Project Capuchin make it possible to "combine the richness of Flash Lite and Java ME technologies" allowing developers to "utilize the best attributes of both software stacks to create content-rich mobile applications." The technology will be made available during the H2 2008.

Project Capuchin will provide developers with an intuitive tool to create applications with a cleaner user interface (UI) without sacrificing the strong, feature rich and widely deployed Java ME infrastructure, including secure, well-developed content distribution. Project Capuchin's bridging software will empower two distinct developer communities to leverage their respective expertises to create the next generation of highly engaging and immersive mobile content.

To put it in other words, expect to see Flash Lite content encapsulated in Java ME applications. More advanced capabilities will allow Flash Lite to handle an entire presentation layer and make it possible to create Java ME applications where some or all UI components are defined in Flash.

Clearer Sony Ericsson Z780 image spotted
Things are slowly shaping up. My guess is that in the next few weeks we'll see the Swedish-Japanese handset maker going official with the Z780. Z780. To be fair, don't know why it take them so long, but in this business it's all about timing — so they gotta have the reason. Anyway, the image above illustrates how the upcoming Z780 holds when compared to its predecessor, the Z770 model. I like both phones, and I'm honestly not sure why another similar phone is needed. Then again, I've no doubts Sony Ericsson knows what it's doing, especially in the mid-range market…

If there's one thing Sony Ericsson does well, it's pumping out tons of super-stylish and slim candybar/monoblock handsets powered by UIQ. The newest unannounced monoblock from the Swedish-Japanese duo is the SE "BeiBei" that you see pictured here. Thanks to the folks over at The Unofficial Sony Ericsson Blog, we've got this nice, clear spy-shot of the Sony Ericsson BeiBei for you to enjoy. The matte black and brown finish really does justice to the BeiBei's facade.

Check out all those navigation keys on the front-face of the BeiBei, it's almost overkill. But, if the Sony Ericsson BeiBei launches with UIQ 3.3, we'll forgive the overloaded keypad and go about our merry, UIQ 3.3-way.

              ?

              ?

              ?

Whether Sony Ericsson will actually go live with the BeiBei is up for debate, but there's no amount of speculation that's going to stop us from keeping our fingers crossed.
