G700 was introduced alongside the much-better G900 model at this year's Mobile World Congress (3GSM) in Barcelona, Spain. We never thought it will cross the Pond and somehow we still doubt that's the case, even though it just passed the FCC hurdle. Sony Ericsson is known to push virtually all of its devices through FCC, but fails to deliver them to the U.S. market.

Still, I want to be an optimist here. UIQ is set to help Motorola push the Z10 and hopefully their future UIQ-based smartphones in North America. They're even organizing two UIQ Fast Track events in Boston and San Francisco this May. Sony Ericsson could certainly take advantage of UIQ's presence on the continent and aside from launching the G700, also release the WiFi-equipped G900 model.

We've nothing official from the Swedish-Japanese folks, it's just me speculating at the moment. Hopefully, this will go beyond my wishful thinking…

This just won't stop. We need to dig through other sources in order to get information about new color options for existing handsets, rather to get a press release from a handset maker itself. Anyway, if you like the Sony Ericsson K660, but don't like the existing colors, here's a reason to rejoice. The K660 model […]

Sony Ericsson K660, but don't like the existing colors, here's a reason to rejoice. The K660 model is now available in two new colors - cyan on black and silver on black. Both versions look nice and no, we don't know when will they start selling nor where.

    • Sony Ericsson P5 Paris leaked?
What we have here is supposedly Sony Ericsson's next big thing. Apparently, it's the P5 model, which is also known as "Paris." From what we know, the upcoming device should have the slider form factor, sporting the P1 or M600 like keyboard under the screen. In addition, the widgetized homepage makes us think it will […]

UIQ 3.3 and we're also keeping our fingers crossed for the built-in GPS.

Nothing is confirmed and as always (until the official announcement) the Swedish-Japanese handset maker is quiet. As soon as we have a new tidbit of information we'll post it, have no doubt about it. Stay tuned…

UPDATE: We have more leaked photos of the device. Check them out after the break.

If there's one thing Sony Ericsson does well, it's pumping out tons of super-stylish and slim candybar/monoblock handsets powered by UIQ. The newest unannounced monoblock from the Swedish-Japanese duo is the SE "BeiBei" that you see pictured here. Thanks to the folks over at The Unofficial Sony Ericsson Blog, we've got this nice, clear spy-shot of the Sony Ericsson BeiBei for you to enjoy. The matte black and brown finish really does justice to the BeiBei's facade.

Check out all those navigation keys on the front-face of the BeiBei, it's almost overkill. But, if the Sony Ericsson BeiBei launches with UIQ 3.3, we'll forgive the overloaded keypad and go about our merry, UIQ 3.3-way.

        ?

        ?

        ?

Whether Sony Ericsson will actually go live with the BeiBei is up for debate, but there's no amount of speculation that's going to stop us from keeping our fingers crossed.

        • Clearer Sony Ericsson Z780 image spotted
Things are slowly shaping up. My guess is that in the next few weeks we'll see the Swedish-Japanese handset maker going official with the Z780. Z780. To be fair, don't know why it take them so long, but in this business it's all about timing — so they gotta have the reason. Anyway, the image above illustrates how the upcoming Z780 holds when compared to its predecessor, the Z770 model. I like both phones, and I'm honestly not sure why another similar phone is needed. Then again, I've no doubts Sony Ericsson knows what it's doing, especially in the mid-range market…

Flash Lite and Java ME development platforms. The so called Project Capuchin make it possible to "combine the richness of Flash Lite and Java ME technologies" allowing developers to "utilize the best attributes of both software stacks to create content-rich mobile applications." The technology will be made available during the H2 2008.

Project Capuchin will provide developers with an intuitive tool to create applications with a cleaner user interface (UI) without sacrificing the strong, feature rich and widely deployed Java ME infrastructure, including secure, well-developed content distribution. Project Capuchin's bridging software will empower two distinct developer communities to leverage their respective expertises to create the next generation of highly engaging and immersive mobile content.

To put it in other words, expect to see Flash Lite content encapsulated in Java ME applications. More advanced capabilities will allow Flash Lite to handle an entire presentation layer and make it possible to create Java ME applications where some or all UI components are defined in Flash.

Sony Ericsson G502 and Z780: Cheap HSDPA, but how cheap? We’re not telling!

The Sony Ericsson G502 and Z780 were announced today, no price points were given, but supposedly they're going to be affordable when they hit the market in the second quarter of 2008. The Z780 above looks like an amazing device, with the specs to match, but there are 2 versions apparently. SE's official PR says it has a QVGA screen, yet SE's product page for the Z780 says otherwise. Full specs (to the best of my knowledge) and images after the jump.

The G502 is a 2100 MHz HSDPA eqipped monoblock with triband 900/1800/1900 MHz GSM/EDGE. It's quite small at only 109.0 x 46.0 x 13.5 mm and weighs 83.5 grams and you get a 2 megapixel camera. Same 240 x 320 resolution we're used to, 262k colors and that seems to be it. It's quite stunning if I do say so myself, I can't say whether or not it will be a hit since there isn't a price … but if it is under 250 EUR expect it to fly off the shelves, more picsture here.

            g502.jpg

The Z780 is an interesting creature, it has quad band GSM/EDGE and triband 850/1900/2100 MHz HSDPA and AGPS, but it has a pitiful 128 x 160 resolution screen with 262K colors. Weighing in at 96 grams at a not so slim 95.0 x 48.0 x 17.0 mm with only a 2 megapixel camera, you have to ask yourself, is this worth it? If it had QVGA it would be a hit, but apparently Sony Ericsson doesn't get that. I'm hoping the resolution is a typo, even Engadget doesn't know wtf is up. More pictures of this device here.

announcement to actually release the Z750a clamshell. And while I guess it's more a matter of timing than problems with a supply chain, I still expected this to happen earlier.

Anyway, the first Sony Ericsson U.S. ready HSDPA phone could now be yours for as little as $49.99. That's of course the price with a 2-year contract and a mail-in rebate. Three color options are available - gray, purple and pink. Specs include 2 megapixel camera, HSDPA support, stereo Bluetooth (A2DP), 2.2-inch QVGA screen, and a memory stick micro slot.
