Images: Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 vs HTC Touch Diamond
Is this clash of the titans or what? Two of the most expected Windows Mobile smartphones are here, standing next to each other. Personally, I prefer the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 for its WVGA screen and that ultra-useful QWERTY keyboard. On the other hand, the HTC Diamond arguably looks better, it's smaller and easier to […]

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 for its WVGA screen and that ultra-useful QWERTY keyboard. On the other hand, the HTC Diamond arguably looks better, it's smaller and easier to carry around, plus it has the new Touchflo interface, which in a word - rocks! What do you think, which one do you prefer?

Two Sony Ericsson phones have been spotted passing the so called FCC hurdle - the R300 Radio and C902 Cyber-shot. R300 Radio and C902 Cyber-shot. The first one is designed for developing countries to allow users to take radio (both AM and FM) with them, where ever they are. The other, more interesting device is the latest and baddest Cyber-shot phone so far - C902. As you're probably aware, this face-detection baby packs 5 megapixel camera into a stylish slim casing and we love it for that.

Now the question is when we'll see the mentioned two devices hitting the U.S. market. Honestly, we don't have a clue. As a matter of fact, we don't even know whether the Swedish-Japanese handset maker will ever push them to North American consumers. We certainly hope that will be the case with the C902 model, but our hope isn't actually something you can count on…

We're not sure whether to trust this because of all the release date confusions in the past, and honestly I hope the Swedish-Japanese handset maker will release the XPERIA X1 before mid-September, but according to Handango's newsletter that's about the time you'll be able to grab the all-in-one Windows Mobile wonder from Sony Ericsson. They said H2 2008 and we always thought it's July, or at least hoped that will be the case. The good thing, though, is the X1 is still on schedule for launch this year as we reported previously.

Anyway, the device will come with Handango's InHand service, meaning more software downloads will be available at your fingertips. Good ol' Handango is in the midst of "seeking the best products for this device" that will support the gorgeous WVGA screen. Now if only someone could borrow me some patience till September that would be awesome. ;(

Sony Ericsson may be announcing more devices on June 17th. Nothing is confirmed at this stage, but if this happens, we'll probably see the Swedish-Japanese handset maker going all official with two Symbian UIQ smartphones - G702 BeiBei and P5 Paris. announcement to actually release the Z750a clamshell. And while I guess it's more a matter of timing than problems with a supply chain, I still expected this to happen earlier.

Anyway, the first Sony Ericsson U.S. ready HSDPA phone could now be yours for as little as $49.99. That's of course the price with a 2-year contract and a mail-in rebate. Three color options are available - gray, purple and pink. Specs include 2 megapixel camera, HSDPA support, stereo Bluetooth (A2DP), 2.2-inch QVGA screen, and a memory stick micro slot.

Q1 2008 has delivered a shake-up in the rankings of Mobile Handset Vendors in India.

Nokia continues to dominate, follow by Sony Ericsson. However, Samsung have now passed Motorola to take 3rd position (echoing changes that we have seen occurring in other countries).

If you want some stats, and I'm sure you do, Nokia are around the 70% (!) mark, whereas SEM is at about 8%, and Samsung at 7%. Motorola are now around the 6% mark.

Samsung, which according to some sources is the world's second largest handset vendor, is planning to double it's market share in India by end of year (remember above is only Q1 stats) - you can expect a slew of new devices covering across all the tiers/segments of the market.

Motorola on the other hand will need to ship high volumes of handsets over the next few months to reverse the trend above - something that no doubt many industry commentators will be watching closely.

XPERIA X1 as the single best Windows Mobile phone announced to date. The newly released XPERIA white paper adds two important details to the mix. Apparently, once it's released in September, the XPERIA X1 will sport:

            1. 256MB of SDRAM and 512MB of NAND Flash - that's the largest amount of memory any smartphone has. Or at least I'm not aware some other device has that much memory available.
            2. High-capacity 1500 mAh lithium polymer battery that should reportedly provide users with up to 10 hours of talk time using GSM or 6.5 hours using UMTS, or 3.1 hours if their making video calls all the time.

What can I say - I want one! A whole summer divide us from owning the XPERIA. ;(
