Sony Ericsson P5 Paris caught in the wild

Sony Ericsson P5 or the so called Paris smartphone. Heck, we even know most of the specs. However, this is the first time we have a clear shot of the device. Scrap that, we have few images proving just how cool handset Sony Ericsson will be releasing in the (hopefully) near future. The only problem I have is that ROKR keyboard which takes some time to get used to, though after a while that's not a problem, I guess.

Anyway, as I just said we have more photos and they follow after the jump. Any comment is appreciated, of course.

Flash Lite and Java ME development platforms. The so called Project Capuchin make it possible to "combine the richness of Flash Lite and Java ME technologies" allowing developers to "utilize the best attributes of both software stacks to create content-rich mobile applications." The technology will be made available during the H2 2008.

Project Capuchin will provide developers with an intuitive tool to create applications with a cleaner user interface (UI) without sacrificing the strong, feature rich and widely deployed Java ME infrastructure, including secure, well-developed content distribution. Project Capuchin's bridging software will empower two distinct developer communities to leverage their respective expertises to create the next generation of highly engaging and immersive mobile content.

To put it in other words, expect to see Flash Lite content encapsulated in Java ME applications. More advanced capabilities will allow Flash Lite to handle an entire presentation layer and make it possible to create Java ME applications where some or all UI components are defined in Flash.

We're not sure whether to trust this because of all the release date confusions in the past, and honestly I hope the Swedish-Japanese handset maker will release the XPERIA X1 before mid-September, but according to Handango's newsletter that's about the time you'll be able to grab the all-in-one Windows Mobile wonder from Sony Ericsson. They said H2 2008 and we always thought it's July, or at least hoped that will be the case. The good thing, though, is the X1 is still on schedule for launch this year as we reported previously.

Anyway, the device will come with Handango's InHand service, meaning more software downloads will be available at your fingertips. Good ol' Handango is in the midst of "seeking the best products for this device" that will support the gorgeous WVGA screen. Now if only someone could borrow me some patience till September that would be awesome. ;(

Things are slowly shaping up. My guess is that in the next few weeks we'll see the Swedish-Japanese handset maker going official with the Z780. Z780. To be fair, don't know why it take them so long, but in this business it's all about timing — so they gotta have the reason. Anyway, the image above illustrates how the upcoming Z780 holds when compared to its predecessor, the Z770 model. I like both phones, and I'm honestly not sure why another similar phone is needed. Then again, I've no doubts Sony Ericsson knows what it's doing, especially in the mid-range market…

If there's one thing Sony Ericsson does well, it's pumping out tons of super-stylish and slim candybar/monoblock handsets powered by UIQ. The newest unannounced monoblock from the Swedish-Japanese duo is the SE "BeiBei" that you see pictured here. Thanks to the folks over at The Unofficial Sony Ericsson Blog, we've got this nice, clear spy-shot of the Sony Ericsson BeiBei for you to enjoy. The matte black and brown finish really does justice to the BeiBei's facade.

Check out all those navigation keys on the front-face of the BeiBei, it's almost overkill. But, if the Sony Ericsson BeiBei launches with UIQ 3.3, we'll forgive the overloaded keypad and go about our merry, UIQ 3.3-way.

          ?

          ?

          ?

Whether Sony Ericsson will actually go live with the BeiBei is up for debate, but there's no amount of speculation that's going to stop us from keeping our fingers crossed.

Sure 22.3 million devices have shipped, a 2% increase from Q1 2007, but with the average selling price of said devices falling to 121 EUR compared to 134 EUR this time last year, the high end phones that do make money sold in much fewer numbers. Sony Ericsson blames the drop in profits to increased spending in R&D, to that I say are you buying all your scientists a triple 30 inch Mac Pro and feeding them gourmet food while they have their scalps massaged by Swedish supermodels?
