We love classic handsets as much as anyone else, but it seems that Sony Ericsson is going the nostalgic route with their unannounced Sony Ericsson Remi. It's still a rumor at this point, but the handset bearing the codename "Remi" is apparently Sony Ericsson's remake on the tried-and true favorite, the Sony Ericsson T610. The Sony […]

That's right folks, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 has been given the grubby once-over by the Boy Genius. Boy Genius. As the highest-end, and most anticipated, smartphone in Sony Ericsson's near-term pipeline, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 has seen more than its fair share of the light that is lime.

And, just to make sure the rest of us are drooling with envious lust, Boy Genius has posted their own hands-on review of the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 - replete with device impressions and photos. The XPERIA brand represents the highest end of Sony Ericsson's "converged device" market, and as such, it get high marks for all its techno-wizardry. The optical joystick is apparently peachy keen, as is the gloriously wide 800×480 WVGA display. And, with UMTS/HSDPA in tow to make wireless data transfers on Windows MObile 6.1 a breeze, the XPERIA X1 is apparently a joy to use - despite the fact that the Boy Genius's pre-production version of the XPERIA X1 tended to bog down a bit.

First-impressions aren't the end-all-be-all when it comes to handset reviews, but this pre-production XPERIA X1 scored low marks in the QWERTY-keyboard department. That snazzy, arc-sliding QWERTY keyboard is apparently not as easy to use as it was cracked up to be. Lack of feedback is mentioned as the keyboard's worst attribute - interesting, because our own (limited) time with the XPERIA X1 left us with a positive impression of the solid keyboard and sliding mechanism.

Hit up Boy Genius for the rest of the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 gallery - sans Sony Ericsson's Panel UI, of course.

BeiBei, Paris, Shino and now another device is included in the mix. A handset codenamed "Alicia" is a stylish Walkman clamshell with two displays. And while we don't have enough information about this phone at the moment, we do know its outer screen won't be used only for displaying caller ID — it will feature some nice Walkman animations or the current weather condition, changing the theme depending on the time of the day. In addition, we know this baby will support TrackID and will be capable to playback both music and video files.

Finally, before I let you go, you should see the first demo video of the device. It just arrived and it's waiting for you after the jump. Enjoy!

new devices, today Sony Ericsson also announced the World View 2008 competition, allowing camera phone owners around the world to compete and win "phenomenal prizes."

            • The People's Choice prize is awarded to the person who receives the most votes from the public around the world and includes a "trip of a lifetime" worth 5,000 GPB/6,250 EUR.
            • The Experts' Choice winner, on the other hand, is chosen by Sony Ericsson's panel of elite photography judges. The main prize is once-in-a-lifetime trip worth 10,000 GBP/12,500 EUR.

It's not an easy task to win the World View competition. 2007's World View winner, Wang Feng from China comments on the image that won him the prestigious title: "I took the image after my car fell into a ditch and got covered in mud. As I was trying to get the car out, the fly landed on the windscreen and I thought it was the perfect picture. I would not have captured it if I had not had my camera phone with me."

Funny or not, he'll be travelling soon. And you could do the same, too. More information about World View 2008 is available from here.

And, with HSPA (both HSDPA and HSUPA), WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth 2.1, and VGA video capture (@ 30fps) rounding out the feature-set, the Sony Ericsson C905 is shaping up to be a  serious smartphone, the likes of which Nokia's N-series will have to counter if they want to stay on top of the cameraphone market.

Nokia N82 was launched, Sony Ericsson practically lost the camera phone war, if there was one. The current Cyber-shot devices produce photos of lower quality than Nokia phones. But, that's about to change, or we hope it will…

The Sony Ericsson C905 aka Shino is the next step in the Cyber-shot camera phone evolution, sporting a 8.1 megapixel camera! And while we're not sure we actually need that many pixels — better colors and faster photo taking is all we require — it's good to see the Swedish-Japanese company making further steps to advance its Cyber-shot line.

Anyway, let's go through specs, shall we:

    • First, the C902 Shino is a feature phone. It runs no mobile OS.

    • Navigation: built-in GPS with further support for A-GPS.
    • Display: 2.4-inch QVGA scratch-resistant mineral glass TFT display.
    • Wireless connectivity: WiFi with DLNA-support, Bluetooth, HSDPA.
    • Other: TV-Out, Memory Stick Micro (M2) expansion slot.
    • Dimensions: 104×49×18 (19.5) mm, weight: 136 grams.
    • Color options: Copper Gold, Ice Silver, and Night Black.
