Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 super-secret OS is Windows Mobile 6.1
It's not such a super-secret anymore. Sony Ericsson's highly-guarded SE XPERIA X1 Windows Mobile smartphone will be running the refreshed Windows Mobile 6.1 - not the Windows Mobile 6.5 that certain dubious sources indicated previously. Still, the presence of a real, live application of Windows Mobile 6.1 makes the whole touch-it-and-die vibe start to make sense. […]

Still, the presence of a real, live application of Windows Mobile 6.1 makes the whole touch-it-and-die vibe start to make sense. Those Sony Ericsson reps were really guarded about the XPERIA X1 and we probably would have lost an appendage had we dared to even reach for the device. At least they were kind enough to let us film a demo.

      • Sony Ericsson W910 Walkman honored with GSM Association’s Best Handset 2008
I always thought the Sony Ericsson W910 is a special handset. As a matter of fact, I've called it the best non-smart musicphone for couple of times. So I was not that surprised to learn that GSMA honored it with the Best Handset 2008 award. We're not sure whether judges like the shake control, auto-rotate feature, […]

games or HSDPA — or everything that combined — it's just the fact that the Swedish-Japanese handset maker has one of the best on-the-go entertainment devices in its portfolio. Yeah, we also suggest the W910 for those not looking to buy a smartphone, but an easy to use yet powerful music phone… Full release follows after the jump.

PRESS RELEASE - Sony Ericsson is delighted to announce that its W910 Walkman phone has been awarded Best Handset at the GSM Association's 13th Global Mobile Awards 2008.

Launched last year, the W910 Walkman phone is designed for entertainment; whether music, 3D games, video, or high-speed Web access. It's also geared to let consumers choose their music just the way they want it. Applications such as Shake control enable them to flick the phone to control games or skip and shuffle between music tracks while SenseMeTM lets them discover music to match their mood and tempo. With its 1GB Memory Stick Micro provided in box, the W910 Walkman phone can hold over 900 songs* with room for plenty more thanks to its expandable memory.

"We are very proud to receive such a prestigious award for what has proved to be a very popular product," says Dick Komiyama, Sony Ericsson President. "The W910 Walkman makes it quicker and easier to transfer or download music. It's also about thinking beyond music, to games, videos and the Web."

Since the launch of the W800 Walkman phone in August 2005, more than 57 million Walkman phones have been sold worldwide. The Walkman phone range has seen rapid expansion, most recently with the launch of the W980 Walkman phone at this year's Mobile World Congress. This latest Walkman phone promises to get the most out of consumers' music with superior clear audio sound, storage for 8,000 songs, and Walkman on Top experience that allows users to control all of their music from the outside of their phone.

In postpay, and not dissimilar from last time, the preponderance of Sony Ericsson and Nokia devices from their respective mid-ranges is quite clear to see. The N95 and N95-8Gb are also doing good numbers - I read somewhere recently that the N95 has done 7m units across continents, so that's a major win for Nokia!

In the land of prepay, SE and Nokia are again owning the market - although Nokia may have 40% market share on a European/Global basis (these stats are always disputed), SE are literally snapping at Nokia's heels in the UK.

I'll repeat this list in 1-2 weeks and see what shifts, if any we have Nokia Dominates Indian Handset Market”>Nokia Dominates Indian Handset Market
